Good B3 backpack trip of 3 miles and under 2000 ft elevation gain. Walk through Schriebers meadow, wildflowers, river and waterfall. Side trip to historic Park Butte Lookout with possible panoramic view of Mt Baker, Twin sisters and Nooksack River Valley.

Meet at Park Butte Trailhead at 8:30am on Friday, August 21st. Northwest Forest Pass or Interagency Pass.

We will enjoy wildflowers, mountain berries of various varieties with Sulphur Creek and it's waterfall as we walk toward the campsite. We will arrive at Cathedral camp in 2.8 miles or Mazama camp in 3.5 miles. We will see if we can camp for 2 nights in the same location and enjoy hiking the Railroad Trail to see the glaciers of Mt Baker and hike up to Park Butte lookout.

Please follow the COVID-19 GUIDELINES FOR A PHASE 2.  Be aware of the Covid-19 Code of Conduct that all participants must have a mask/face-covering readily available on the trail when passing other hikers. Have hand sanitizer on hand. We will do our best to maintain 6’ distance from one another. We will not be sharing gears. Any participant known to be exposed or have any symptoms are ask to cancel from the trip.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
