Ozette Triangle

Trip

Backpack - Ozette Triangle

An easy going mosey on the Washington Coast to check out tide pools, sea critters and (hopefully) eat s'mores.

11am at the Ozette Ranger Station with gear ready to go. (https://goo.gl/maps/EkGTT8ZKBzV7HNqQ9)

Covid-19: We will follow all Mountaineers protocols.  Bring a face mask and hand sanitizer.  We will wear masks when within 6' of others. Refrain from carpooling unless you are a pod or family unit, and please do not share gear.

We'll enjoy an easy going mosey at 1.5 - 2.0mph along a 3.3mi trail through a lovely forest (with a potentially slippery and damaged boardwalk) until we reach the beach, where we will then hike another 1 mile on sand, gravel and slippery seaweed covered tidal rocks to our camping destination, Wedding Rocks. I would like the group to stick together until we choose a campsite, then feel free to spread out and wander. At Wedding Rocks, we'll set up camp and spend two nights marveling at the stunning petroglyphs left by ancestors of the Makah tribe, look for sea critters and if it's not too wet, light a beach fire and have s'mores (I'll bring marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers).

Unfortunately, there is no pit toilet located at Wedding Rocks, though Alava and Sand Point do, so plan accordingly. Also, there is no water source at Wedding Rocks, so water will have to be hauled from home, Cape Alava or Sand Point. Water on the coast contains tannins, cryptosporidium and giardia, so a filter is a must (cannot use iodine). Due to voracious raccoons, bear canisters are required in Olympic National Park, and can be borrowed from the Wilderness Information Center in Port Angeles if needed. There is an $16 backcountry fee that can be sent via PayPal or Venmo. If I do not receive payment prior to the trip, you will be cancelled from the activity.

I'll send out an email with more details a few weeks before the trip.
