Permit fee is $9/person - payable to leader prior to trip
Preference to Tacoma Branch Introduction to Backpacking Students. Trip will open to all Mountaineers on April 30. Backpacking Students may request leader permission starting March 27th. Being accepted does not guarantee you a spot as you will still have to register.
Experience a one-night backpacking trip to Big Log Camp in the Olympics! Starting from Staircase, hike through beautiful trails, set up camp in the midst of towering trees, and enjoy a night under the stars.
Saturday - We'll hike from the Staircase trailhead to the Big Log Camp - 5.1 Miles 1,100 Feet Elevation Gain.
Sunday - We'll return to the Staircase Trailhead - 5.1 Miles 410 Feet Elevation Gain.
There are bear wires at this camp, so bear canisters are not required.
An American the Beautiful Pass is required for parking at the trailhead
We will meet at the Staircase Trailhead at 9AM and after introductions and a brief equipment check, be on the trail by 9:30AM on Saturday

- Tent with footprint/ground tarp
- Stove and fuel
- Sleeping bag
- Sleeping pad
- Water filter
- Bear canister
- Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
- Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
