Backpack - North Fork Skokomish River & Flapjack Lakes

A two night backpacking trip beginning at the Staircase Ranger Station and follow the trail for about a mile until you reach a bridge. Continue up valley on the North Fork Skokomish River Trail for another 2.4 miles to Spike Camp. Round trip of 7.2 miles and 625 feet of elevation gain round trip.

At the Staircase trailhead

The major trail paralleling the North Fork Skokomish River. The trail begins at the Staircase Ranger station and continues on the north side of the river following an abandon road bed abandoned in 1970 all the way up to Spike camp.  The lowland forest river valley takes us thru a forest over 500 years old and past the site of the 1985 Beaver Fire. There are a few nice creek crossings.  

Spike camp is locate at the junction for the Flapjack Lakes trail 3.6 mile from the Staircase ranger station. The campsite contains toilet facilities. A bear canister is recommend unless you call the ranger station to inquiry on the condition of the bear wire. 

Be on Spike camp you can day hike up to Flapjack Lakes, cross the North Skokomish river to camp Pleasant, and very adventurous can hike all the way up to First Divide. 

The cost for camping and reservation is $17 for each person.

  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food

  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
