Requirements:
NW Forest or America the Beautiful Pass for parking at the trailhead. No additional permits required for backpacking.
Bear canisters are required.
Mileage:
Day 1 mileage and elevation to Shelter Rock Camp are approximately 2.5 miles and 1,346 ft of elevation. We'll set up camp and then decide on possible day-hiking options, including another 2.7 miles and 2,047 ft up to Marmot Pass where we'll intersect the Tubal Cain Trail. Those looking for more adventure can either tag Buckhorn Mountain (another 1 mile + 900 ft of elevation [one way]) or continue another 2.4 miles (one way) to Buckhorn Lake and the old Tubal Cain mine site. You also have the option to relax and enjoy Shelter Rock Camp.
Day 2 mileage is 2.5 miles back to the trailhead. We may stop for a treat (food) on the way back.
