Backpack - Marmot & Clarice Lakes

Overnight backpack in the Alpine Lake Wilderness to large beautiful Marmot Lake beneath Mount Daniel. We will use Marmot Lake as a base and also visit Lake Clarice and possibly No- Name and Jade Lakes. This trip is designed to provide extra skills training for B3 students, but is open to all Mountaineers

We will hike in 9.5 miles and nearly 3000 feet to Marmot Lake on the first day. After setting up camp, there will be an optional day hike to Lake Clarice.  On day two, the group will have an optional day hike to No-Name and Jade Lakes and then return to camp before hiking out.  Participants should be experienced backpackers, and comfortable with elevation gain.  The pace will be moderate so that hikers have time to take pictures and enjoy the hike. 

The longest single-day mileage is 11 miles.  The highest single-day elevation gain is 3000 ft.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
