Introduction to Backpacking
Kids Welcome
Destination: Mirror Lake via Cottonwood Lakes
This is a very easy backpack (just one overnight) to Mirror Lake (1.1 miles over 600 ft. elevation gain). It is perfect for new members and those who are new to backpacking. The main focus will be on choosing a campsite, setup a camp and how to properly hang on food on branches. I am not planning to cook anything but if you are willing to try you are welcome to bring your cookware. Even if you don't have your own tent you still may sign up for this backpack because we will share backpacking gear. However you will need to coordinate with me and let me know what backpacking gear you have and if you are willing to share your tent, for those who have it. The minimum gear that you need to have is a sleeping bag and sleeping pad. This is an excellent opportunity to try how backpacking looks like before you decide to go on some more adventurous backpacking trip. The idea is that we go in the evening, setup the camp, have a nice dinner, sleep in the woods and next day early in the morning explore the area a little bit along Pacific Crest Trail, break down the camp and go back home and to work if you have to work. I suggest that everyone prepares some home-made food and bring it to share since it is just one overnight. More info about Mirror Lake:
