4-day road trip with hikes of Lassen Peak, Bumpass Hell, Burney Falls and 2-day backpack loop Butte Lake to Cinder cones, Juniper, Horseshoe and Jakey Lakes.

Portland, Thursday evening June 3. address TBA

Fri, June 4. Early-early start. Drive down to Lassen Volcanic NP. (ETA 4pm). Hike Bumpass Hell (3mi) and Lassen Peak (5mi/2000ft). Stay Butte Lake CG (primitive camping, no potable water).

Sat, June 5 - Fill out backcountry permits. Leave from Butte Lake via Cindercone and down to Horseshoe or Jakey Lake (12 - 14mi)

Sun, June 6 - Finish loop (entire loop is 24mi/4500ft) with stop at opposite cindercone, lakes.  Stay Butte Lake.

Mon, June 7 - Visit Burney Falls. Possible  Bumpass Hell if we didn't get it Friday. Begin drive home by 11:30am. ETA in Olympia, late.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister 
  • Seriously on the bear can!!!!!!
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • trekking poles
  • Towel if you want to swim
  • microspikes for Lassen Peak
  • Money for driver, meals, campsite fee
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
