Backpack up Mountaineer Creek to clear blue Lake Stuart and setup camp for Friday and Saturday nights. On Saturday, carrying only a daypack hike through meadows near the base of Mt. Stuart and up an unmaintained boot trail, brushy and obscure in places, to the pristine autumn alpine environment of Horseshoe and Jack Lakes. This day hike is exploratory in nature. Return Sunday from Stuart Lake. Leader may car camp Thursday night at Eight Mile Lake Campground. Register online or with club headquarters. 9/11/09 - please note that the round trip mileage for this backpack and hike is approximately 15 miles, not 28.
