Backpack - Heather & Glasses Lakes

Camp at the foot of a beautiful mountain lake, then visit its cousin further up the valley near the Cascade Crest. Great early season flowers and views. This trip will done in conjunction with the separate Labyrinth Mountain (Minotuar Lake) day hike on 6/26.

We will meet at the Coles Corner Shell Station at the Junction of Hwy 2 and State HWY 207  18.5 miles East of Stevens Pass. 11 AM.  We will caravan to the trail head.  Per Mountaineers' Covid-19 protocol carpool is discouraged.

This trip will be done in conjunction with the Labyrinth Mountain (Minotaur Lake) trip on Friday 6/25.  Participants are required to do both trips, the overnight and the Friday day trip.  The two trips have relatively  close by trail heads.


Day 1, Thursday:  Heather Lake TH to Heather Lake 3.5 miles, 1350' gain. Set up camp.  Hike up to Glasses lake (likely some blow-downs on the trail) 1.5 miles one-way, 1167' gain. Optional opportunity to scramble up the steep hillside behind Glasses Lake to the PCT trail and potential views (may be too snowy to attempt) .20 mile one-way, 420' gain. Return to Heather Lake for leisurely evening .

Day 2, Friday: Leisurely morning, pack-up and head to TH. We will then caravan to the Labyrinth Mountain/ Minotaur Lake TH. see 6/25 trip.

This is a Leader's Permission Only trip.  Please let me know a little about your backpacking history.  Give example of trips of this level that you have completed.  Tell me want you have done this season to  be of proper conditioning for this trip. Also please affirm that you know that both trips outlined above are required and you intend to register for both trips.  I will be out of town (on a backpack trip, of course) 6/18-6/20 and will response to your requests when I return.  Rob

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Food for two days
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
  • Full rain gear and pack cover if appropriate
