Backpack - Gray Wolf–Dosewalips–Cameron Loop

Seven night hike exploring one of the hidden gems in the Olympic National Park.

Meeting time is TBD. Tentatively ready to hike at 10am at the Deer Park TH. 

Entry: Deer Park TH.
Day 1: Hike 11mi, Camp at Moose Lake. 2800 ascent, 2900 descent. Note: no water source on day 1.
Day 2: Explore the area: Moose Peak area, McCartney area, Lillian Lakes area, Amalia Falls. Please note: Lillian Lakes area exploration requires off trail and route finding. Camp a second night at Moose Lake.
Day 3: Hike 6.2mi, Camp at Upper Cameron. 2700 ascent, 2400 descent. Explore Cameron Pass area.
Day 4: Hike 3.8mi, Camp at Dose meadows. 1300 ascent, 2100 descent.
Day 5: Explore 1000 acre meadows, Hayden Pass, Sentinel Peak, Mount Fromme. This day also includes off trail exploration and route finding. Camp a second night at Dose Meadows
Day 6: Hike 8.7 mi. Pass by Bear Camp Falls. Take the Cedar Lake primitive trail. Note: Please anticipate that the Cedar Lake primitive trail may require route finding. Camp at Cedar lake.  Ascent 3000, descent 2200. 
Day 7: Hike 7.6mi, Camp at Three Forks. descent 3200.
Day 8: Hike 4.7mi, Exit at Deer Park TH. ascent 3220, Descent 100.

Note: mileage and gain do not include the optional day 2 and day 5 exploration.

Cost:
Option 1: purchase an Olympic Wilderness Pass, $45. Leader to email instructions, if desired
Option 2: $8 per night = $56.
There is also a reservation fee, $6 total = $1/person

Note: Bear cans are required. We will have bear wires at some sites but not all.

Also note that we may still have COVID requirements that we must follow.

This is a Leaders Permission hikeWhen requesting permission please describe recent backpacks that are 5+ days in length (from the past few years). Also describe your comfort level with off trail exploration.  Please hold off on the leader permission emails until the last couple days of February. And one more note, there will be times between now and August when I will not have cell phone coverage for a week or so. I will reply when I get back.

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister or extra stuff sack and cord designated for hanging food
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
  • Rain Gear
  • Bear Can
