This beginners backpacking trip features mountains, valleys, lakes, and wildflowers in Olympic National Park. PLEASE NOTE: Registration is initially open to Susan and Aisa's B3 mentor group, and open to all club members after May 15.

  • Moderate/Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.8 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,400 ft
  • Pace: Pace of the group

This backpack is for beginning backpackers  - and those that are happy to hike  with beginners!

From the Obstruction Point Trailhead, we will head to Grand Lake and take in the views, then continue on to our camp to Moose Lake, where we have a permit. Day 1 will be 5 miles with 1,135 feet of gain and 2,200 feet of loss.  On the next day, we will continue the loop back to the trailhead with, we hope, amazing ridge views along the way. Day 2 will be 5 miles with 2,300 feet of gain and 1,300 feet of loss.  Although the distance each day isn't long, please consider the elevation gain and loss before signing up for this trip.

We will hike as a group, with beauty breaks along the way to enjoy what we came to see.  Bring a bathing suit if you would like to take a swim.

The permit fee of $54 will be split evenly among participants. The fee ($9 if we have 6 participants) will be due to the leader before the trip.  Note that if you cancel within 3 days of the trip and your spot cannot be filled, your fee will not be returned.

If the forecast calls for significant rain, the trip will be canceled or moved to another location.

We will meet at the Hurricane Ridge Visitor's Center in Olympic National Park by 9:45 on July 5. Drivers will need a National Park Pass to park. We will carpool from there 8 miles to the trailhead.
