Ascend gradually through a diverse wonderland of wildflowers, through woodlands towards the south slope of Ingalls Peak. There, a series of switchbacks eases the steepening ascent to reach Fortune Creek Pass. We'll make camp after several enjoyable miles, in an area of grand views of the Esmeralda Peaks. Day 2 will be an exploratory day of the numerous trails connected in this region, returning to our base camp for our evening meal. Day 3 we'll make a leisurely return trip to the trailhead. Total expected hiking distance for the 3 days is about 25 miles, and about 3000 to 4000 feet gain. As snow conditions this year are difficult to predict for the 4th of July, in case of lingering deep snow in this area, an alternate destination will be selected; this will most likely be the Dosewallips trail in the Olympics.
