Enchanted Valley - ahhhh. This is a classic Olympics backpacking trip. Registration is open initially to Backpacking Building Blocks students, with preference to Susan and Aisa's mentor group. Club members may register beginning May 1.

  • Easy
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 26.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,800 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0
  • May 29: The group can discuss if we want to car camp nearby (it's about a 3.5-hour drive from Seattle to the trailhead).
  • May 30: Leave the trailhead by 10:00 a.m. Hike 9 miles to Pyrites Camp. (Note there is no pit toilet at this site.)
  • May 31: Day hike about 9 miles out and back from Pyrites to Enchanted Valley.
  • June 1: Hike out 9 miles. Drive home.
While there isn't a great deal of elevation, distances are long. Before signing up, please be sure that you have the conditioning for a 9-mile hike each day for 3 days.  We will leave time for beauty breaks along the way.
The Enchanted Valley requires bear canisters.  It may be possible to rent them at the Quinault Rain Forest Ranger Station if you do not have one.
