The drive from Seattle to Graves Creek trail head is at least three hours plus the time it takes to obtain a walk-up permit. We'll arrange carpools ahead of time and head out no later than 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning with a goal of hitting the trail by 10:00 a.m.

This is a good trip for B3 students to meet their 2-day backpack trip requirement to graduate, but is also open to all Mountaineers members.

Our goal the first day is to make it to Pyrites Camp 9 miles down the trail. With the gentle elevation gain, we should make it to the campsite between 3:00 - 4:00.  We'll spend both nights at this camp, so our packs will be light for hiking the six miles through the Enchanted Valley the second day. We should have plenty of time to explore, see the Chalet, have lunch and look for the world's largest Western Hemlock Tree before we retrace our steps back to camp. On Monday morning, we'll pack up camp and head back to our vehicles for the drive home. Please note that bears are known to frequent this valley so bear canisters are required. I'm rating this trip as moderate as we will try to maintain a 2 mile per hour pace because the elevation gain is relatively low.

There may be a per-person per-night permit fee of up to $8.00 at this location. if you sign up for this trip, you agree to bring enough cash to pay your share of permit costs or up to $16.00. If you are a passenger, you also agree to pay the driver for reasonable transportation costs.
