Explore the western edge of the Pasayten Wilderness, east of Ross Lake in the North Cascades. 4 days, 3 nights.  Intimate views of Crater Peak and Jack Mountain are framed with alpine meadows covered in wildflowers are the reward on this 25 mile, partial loop trip. We'll take a water taxi to Devils Junction on the east shore of Ross Lake, ascend Devils Dome, traverse Jackita Ridge, then descend past Crater Peak to Canyon Creek Trailhead on US-20.

The strenuous journey pays off with the incredible beauty of this remote region, which sees few visitors.  We'll start our journey at the Devils Junction trailhead on the East bank of Ross Lake.  To reach this starting point, we'll take a water taxi from the south end of Ross Lake at US-20.

Our planned first nights camp will be in the basin just west of and below Devils Dome (approximately 7 miles from Devils Junction TH).  Second night will approximately 10 - 12 miles along Jackita Ridge (wherever we find water).  Last night will be near Devils Park. Day 4 hiking distance is approximately 12 miles (including short side trip to Crater Lake).

The cost of the water taxi will depend of the number of people signed-up for the trip. It will range from approximately $30.00 to $50.00, per person, round trip plus tax.  We will need at a few people to use their vehicles for the car-shuttle, for the distance between Ross Lake Boat Launch and Canyon Creek TH on US-20 (approximately 8 miles).

This is bear country: Bear-proof canisters are mandatory on this trip.  Numerous water supply locations on most sections of trails. Planned Pace: 2.0 mph. As with all Mountaineers trips, due to unknown snow conditions for the time of this trip,  the destination may need to be changed to an area with less snow. I will send regular updates to all those signed-up, advising of any changes to the destination.

Although open to all club members over age 18, this trip is also part of the B3 backpacking Building Blocks series and eligible for B3 course credit. In addition, this backpack will have a practical instructional/learning focus and offer experience in proper gear use and camp set-up techniques.
