9:00 AM at Skykomish Ranger Station, east of Skykomish on Route 2
On Saturday August 31 we will backpack four miles from the end of the West Fork Foss River Road, with 2300 feet elevation gain to Copper Lake, where we will camp for two nights. We will pass Trout Lake en route.

Saturday afternoon there will be an optional 1.5 mile RT side trip to Malachite Lake.

Sunday we will day hike five miles RT to Big Heart Lake, with 800 feet gain in and 200 feet gain out, passing Little Heart Lake enroute. We will have time to swim in Copper Lake and Big Heart Lake.

Monday we will hike out from Copper Lake.

This backpack trip is open to all club members over age 18 with an up-to-date waiver on file. This trip is also is part of the B3 Backpacking Building Blocks series and qualifies toward B3 course graduation credit. In addition, this backpack will have a practical instructional/learning focus and offer experience in proper gear use and camp set-up techniques.

All Mountaineer activities, including backpack trips, are restricted to members over the age of 18 unless the trip is explicitly listed as a youth activity and led by a Qualified Youth Leader. This backpack trip is for adults age 18+.
