June 7-8, Sat.-Sun. – Sand Point - Cape Alava Circuit from Ozette Lake (M) (GT Ozette #130S) NPF 9.3 mi; 420’gain. Moderate pace, slower if wet boardwalk. We will backpack a clockwise loop through rain forest, along a rocky coastal beach with driftwood, and explore Sand Point and Cape Alava. For most of the hiking on trails we’ll encounter relatively level boardwalk on a boggy glacial drift plain. On Saturday night, we’ll camp at Sand Point and then pass by Wedding Rocks near low tide on Sunday morning, comprised of petroglyphs carved in marine sandstone. Expect to see abundant marine and forest wildlife. We will need to catch an early ferry and pickup bear canisters at the Park Visitors Center in Port Angeles on our way over and leave cars at Ozette Lake. Limit 8. Meet 12:30 p.m. at Lake Ozette Ranger Station. 4.45 hour. Inclement weather cancels trip. The total wilderness camping permit, ferry, and mileage fees will exceed $60.
