11:00 AM at Ozette Ranger Station
Last year over 800 volunteers picked up over 23 tons of trash during the annual Coast Cleanup, and the Mountaineers were there to help. Join us this year on this 2-night backpack to beautiful Cape Alava. We’ll backpack in 3 miles and set up camp on Friday, participate in the Coast Cleanup on Saturday, and hike out on Sunday. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the rich cultural history and natural beauty of the area. The coastal raccoons are particularly adept at ransacking camps and stealing food, so the Olympic National Park REQUIRES ALL FOOD AND OTHER SCENTED ITEMS TO BE STORED IN HARD-SIDED ANIMAL CANISTERS. Bring your own hard-sided canister, or rent one at the ranger station for a nominal donation. This is the Washington Coast, so come prepared for rainy conditions!
