Meet at Louella Road junction with US 101 at 8 a.m.  Recommend meeting at Driftwood Players Parking Lot, 950 Main St. in Edmonds at 6 a.m. to carpool to the ferry.

This is a nice alternative to the busy Marmot Pass route up the Big Quilcene trail.  The views and wildflowers, and mountain views,  should be incredible.  Trip will be done as a 2-day backpack with optional side trip up Mt. Townsend at the end.

After a short easy hike to Tubal Cain Mine we will set up camp.  Then the group will continue up to Buckhorn Pass and Marmot Pass, approx. 2700 elevation gain, with expansive views across the Dungeness River gorge to the main range of the Olympics. Optional side trip to Buckhorn Mountain with additional 1000 elevation gain.  We then return to camp for the evening.

The next morning we reverse course back to the trailhead, where we can drop some weight before hiking to Mount Townsend (additional 8 miles and 3000 elevation gain) with views of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.

Consequently we will have lighter packs for both hike segments that have significant elevation gain.

Although open to all club members over age 18, this trip is also part of the "B3" Backpacking Building Blocks course and series and qualifies for B3 course graduation credit.
