Although open to all club members over age 18, this trip is also part of the B3 backpacking Building Blocks series and eligible for B3 course graduation credit. In addition, this backpack will have a practical instructional/learning focus and offer experience in proper gear use and camp set-up techniques.

June in the Teanaway Valley is a good time for wildflowers and bird watching. Lewisia and Western Tanagers are usually highlights of this hike. Another plus of the Teanaway is that it is on the dry side of the state and usually melts out earlier than the rest of the Cascades.

The hike is short at 4.5 mi per day; the elevation gain is 1800 ft. We will set a moderate pace, approximately 2 mph and camp at Gallaher Head Lake. After we set up camp we will decide whether to pursue a side trip, Fortune Pass is the most likely.

The trip may be cancelled or the destination changed if weather or trail conditions are unsafe on trip dates, i.e. there is a possibility of thunderstorms.
