It's that time of the year again - time for my annual trip to Bean Creek Basin and the surrounding peaks! We start with a leisurely walk into the basin through some of the best flower meadows the Teanaway as to offer. We'll make camp, relax for a bit, and hike up to one of the surrounding ridges or peaks (depending on group ambition) for a view of the Stuart range. Afterwards, good times will be had by all in camp. The next day, we'll do another hike to a different ridge/peak/etc, break camp, and head home! This is a great trip for the first-time backpacker and experienced backpacker alike. The mood is mellow and the scenery awesome. It's pretty hard to beat. In years past, we've gone with basic backpacking food (read: dehydrated), but this year we may try to aim a little higher and go for the gourmet version, depending on group ambition. More details after you sign up. Participants are expected to provide their own backpacking gear, although there may be opportunities to borrow/share some gear. Expect about a 4 mile hike in, gaining roughly 2,000 feet of elevation to base camp, plus additional elevation and distance to the hikes from camp. Contact leader (email preferred) with questions, and hope to see you there! About the UTHRs: The UTHRs (say others) are a group aimed at bringing 20- & 30-something Mountaineers members together for fun and friendship. They believe that people in this age range should have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors with their peers!
