3-day backpacking loop around Mother Mountain along the Wonderland Trail and Spray Park Trails to visit beautiful Spray Park. Optional day hike at the end to Tolmie and Faye Peaks.

We'll meet at the Mowich Lake trailhead at 10 am on Aug 2nd. Carpooling arrangements will be made ahead of time.

A National Parks pass or 1-week pass required to enter MRNP.

Route Overview

This 3 day trip starts at Mowich Lake and loops clockwise around Mother Mountain. The goal will be to visit Spray Park. Mount Pleasant is an optional destination on day 2. After the loop is complete, there will be an optional day hike to Tolmie and/or Faye Peaks.

Leader Permission Required

This trip has a significant amount of distance and gain. You must demonstrate through your recent experience that you are fit enough to handle the distance, gain, and pack weight this trip will require. 

Itinerary

Day 1: Mowich -> Carbon River Camp (6.9 mi, 1,300 ft gain)

Day 2: Carbon River -> Mount Pleasant -> Spray Park -> Eagle's Roost Camp (7.4 mi, 3,900 ft gain) 

Day 3: Eagle's Roost Camp -> Mowich (2.2 mi, 700 ft gain)

After returning to the cars, people can head home or drop their backpacking packs and join in either or both of the following day hikes:

  •  Tolmie Lookout: 5.6 mi, 1,900 ft gain
  • Faye Peak: 3.3 mi, 1,500 ft gain

The Ten Essentials plus overnight gear which may include:

  • Tent with footprint/ground tarp
  • Stove and fuel
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping pad
  • Water filter
  • Bear canister (MRNP requirement)
  • Cooking pot/pan with plate and utensils
  • Toilet paper and shovel or blue bag to deal with waste
