This is a really good first trip for backpack students so that is why I set the priority to those in a backpack course. Please send me a Leader's Permission request with the backpack course you are in and your backpack experience. If you are not in a course, it is OK to send me a request also but I will not be able to add you until after Monday 4/14 after those in course have time to request a spot. You may still get on though so please still send me a request!
3 items all need to know: 1) none of the water is drinkable even with boiling or filtering so you will need to carry 4 liters of water to use for the trip. 2) bear cans are needed due to very few trees. We can share cans as a group if not all have one but that will need to be organized before hand. 3) be aware that there are rattlesnakes in this desert area.
The general plan to the trip:
Friday 5/2: we will meet at the trailhead; all can ask quesions concerning their gear; then we will travel to the camp area (only 1.5 miles); have a bunch of time to set up camp and enjoy a lunch; then for all interested we will do a short hike to explore the area; after that for those interested in additional miles we can go back to my car for wood to have a campfire at night; then dinner and a campfire!
Saturday 5/1: we will pack up and just go back to the car; we may also consider a vey short hike to get closer to a waterfall in the area but that is up to the group.
Exact time to meet will be sent in a detailed email to all participants about 3 to 4 days prior to the the trip but I expect to meet around 10am at the lower trailhead.
