Backcountry Trail Run - Mailbox Peak

Dawn patrol at Mailbox Peak! Hike up, run down

  • Very Strenuous, Snow Scramble, Winter Scramble
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 8.2 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,100 ft
  • Pace: 3-5 mph

6:00am at the lower parking lot on the Middle Fork Road, outside of the gate. Discover Pass required.  There's an outhouse at the main parking lot. Dawn is around 5:30am.

We will hike up and run down. We will ascend the old Mailbox Peak trail, hopefully  tag the summit and visit the mailbox, then descend the new trail back to the parking lot.  Previous runs on this route have taken about 2.5 hours. It's helpful to have poles to ascend the old trail. A jacket for the peak and the downhill is a good idea. The new trail is smooth enough to run downhill on.
