Backcountry Trail Run - Enchantment Lakes

Enchantments larch attempt. This will be an out and back from Stuart Lake TH to Lake Vivienne.

  • Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 18.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,772 ft

Time: TBD (probably 6am to avoid crowds)

Location: Stuart Lake TH

AccommodationsWe'll grab walk-up sites at 8-mile campground for interested parties.

We'll optionally meet up the night before for dinner to discuss the plan, and may have an optional zoom call before the run.

This is a run, not a fast hike. This is not the traverse, it is an out and back that will include some additional elevation gain.

Ideally we will finish in <9h and everyone will have an average moving pace of 17min/miles (breaks don't count towards moving pace).

Requirements

  • Share tracks showing you  have  run 12 miles with 3000ft of elevation gain at 17min/mile pace in the last 3 months (or something roughly equivalent to show you are prepared)

Details

We are going to run through the Enchanments. We'll depart Stuart Lake TH, do a mix of running/walking up to Aasgard, walk Aasgard, then run out to Lake Vivienne and back. We will walk back down Aasgard, and then run the rest of the way back to Stuart Lake TH.

Lake Vivienne back to Aasgard will be slightly uphill, but it shouldn't be steep enough that we need to walk.

We will take breaks for lunch, photos, water filtering and nature appreciation. Hopefully there will be golden larches.

More details will be added before the run.

Resources

Risks

  • Aasgard can have lots of rock fall, so we will slowly walk up and down together

This run will be cancelled due to bad weather, smoke, or other dangerous conditions (ie snow).
