Backcountry Ski/Snowboard - Paradise Area (winter)

We will ski from the Paradise parking lot in search of the best conditions.  Possible destinations include Edith Creek Basin and Mazama Ridge.   Expect elevation gain of up to 3,500'.  

Intermediate or better backcountry skiing or backcountry boarding level expected.   M1 rated trip.  Skier oriented trip.   Splitboarders must have sidehilling experience. 

No snowshoes.   Skins, beacon, shovel, probe required;  beacon must be a two or three antenna model.  We may practice transceiver searches - bring a plastic bag in which you can bury your transceiver.

The destination is subject to change based on conditions and the opening time for the Longmire gate.

  • Boots, skis/snowboard, poles
  • Climbing skins (or other method to travel uphill on snow)
  • Avalanche shovel (metal blade)
  • Avalanche beacon - Two or three antenna version required 
  • Avalanche probe
  • Ski crampons may be required, depending on conditions.
