We will explore the trail to the Box Canyon Campground from the Lake Kachess Snopark, exit 62 off I-90. The trip is approximately 12 miles round trip with some 400 ft. elevation gain along forest roads groomed for snowmobiles. However there are normally few snowmobiles to contend with midweek.

Conditions can vary depending snow, temperature and how recently the trails have been groomed. Most of the route is fairly flat but there are some sections that involve hills and therefore the ability to use a wedge/snowplow position for descents is needed. Nordic Classic no-wax skis are recommended. Please consult the leader if you wish to use other types of ski. Please note: the trail is not specifically groomed for skiers.

You may carpool from our meeting place at Preston P&R, meeting at 8:45 am or meet us at the Lake Kachess Snopark an hour later. All vehicles taken to the trailhead will require WA Snopark Passes. Passes need to be purchased in advance: contact the leader for more information. Taking everyone who signs up will be dependent on enough drivers with suitable vehicles for winter snow conditions volunteering. Full directions to both locations and other trip information will be provided several days prior to our trip.
