Backcountry Ski/Snowboard - Crystal Mountain Backcountry

Trip

Backcountry Ski/Snowboard - Crystal Mountain Backcountry

  • M3 Expert Ski
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,500 ft
  • Pace: 1200-1500ft/hr

Usual meeting point (46.93589, -121.47388) at Crystal Mountain Base area, 8:30AM.

Our goal is to have a fun and adventurous day out, and that may include exploring new terrain.  We will move quickly on the uphill (1200-1500ft/hr), although not at the pace (2000ft/hr) that would require lycra suits.  Comfort skiing most of the resort terrain at Crystal is expected.  Depending on the day and destination, we will ski in tight trees, steep/narrow areas, areas with thin coverage,  variable snow conditions, or the occasional thicket.  (This is especially true when we traverse through one zone to reach another.)

To request Leader's Permission — if you haven't skied with me previously — describe your 2024+2025 touring experience and current fitness.

NOTE: AIARE1+Rescue is a hard requirement.

  • The Ten Essentials
  • Backcountry ski gear (skis/splitboard, boots, skins, poles).  (We'll travel with a skier's mindset, so splitters should be comfortable split skiing or otherwise dealing well with traverses and some amount of downhill travel with skins on.)
