Backcountry Ski/Snowboard - Crystal Mountain Backcountry

  • M2 Advanced Ski
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 8.3 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,000 ft

We will meet at the Plaza south of the ticket window of Crystal Mountain ski area at 9:00 am. 

We will ski from the Crystal Mountain Base area search of the best conditions.  Possible destinations include Bear Gap and the adjacent ridge.   Expect elevation gain of up to 3,500'.  

Intermediate or better backcountry skiing or backcountry boarding level expected.   M1 rated trip.  Skier oriented trip.   Splitboarders must have sidehilling experience. 

Participants must have completed one of more of the following AIARE courses after January 1, 2016:

  1. AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course
  2. AIARE Level 1 Avalanche Course
  3. AIARE Level 2 Avalanche Course

No snowshoes.   Skins, beacon, shovel, probe required;  beacon must be a two or three antenna model.  We may practice transceiver searches - bring a plastic bag in which you can bury your transceiver.  Watch this 7 minute AIARE video on Avalanche Rescue within 1 week of our trip: 

Vaccination: All participants on this trip must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Leader permission required, which can be requested before the signup opening date by E-mail to the leader.

  • Avalanche beacon - Two or three antenna version required 
  • Avalanche probe
  • Ski crampons may be required, depending on conditions.
