Moderate paced tour for new and intermediate sliders to Bear Gap near the Crystal Mountain ski area.

Please meet in the area between the ski lift ticket booths and the building to the east of the ticket booths.  Be ready to begin the tour at 8:45 am.

Car Pool Location

  • Leave the location at 6:30 am
  • South Renton Park and Ride, 205 S 7th St, Renton, WA
  • Meet on the south side of the Park and Ride near the bus stops.

Please complete the following sections of the AIARE field book PRIOR to arriving at the trail head: Avalanche Danger, Snowpack Discussion, Weather Forecast and identify four or more locations where observations will be recorded.  Enclosed is a list of emergency contact numbers.

See the enclosed map for the approximate route.  We will tour SW under the Quick Silver chair lift to Hen Skin Lake.  From the lake, we will tour east to Bear Gap.

The actual route will depend on snow, avalanche, weather conditions and participants’ abilities. If needed, an alternate, safer destination will be chosen by group consensus.

The trip will include a beacon search and retrieval practice session.  Please bring a waterproof bag and a plastic case to protect your beacon when it is being used as the victim’s beacon.
