January 31 – February 8, 2009 – British Columbia: Bonnington Range traverse (M2) In south-central British Columbia, the Kootenay Mountains get lots of powder snow. We will tour from hut to hut with an overnight pack on our back. Terrain includes alpine bowls, peak ascents, and great tree skiing. Each rustic wilderness hut has wood stove, Coleman stove and lantern, basic cooking utensils, and bunk beds. Jan 31 drive to Nelson and stay at the Dancing Bear Inn, Feb 1 ski to Grassy Mountain Hut, Feb 2 layover day to ski slopes, Feb 3 ski to Steed/Marble Hut, Feb 4 ski to Copper Hut, Feb 5 ski to Huckleberry Hut, Feb 6 layover day to ski slopes, Feb 7 ski out and soak in Nakusp or Halcyon Hot Springs, Feb 8 drive home. Price includes Nelson hostel and all huts. To register, mail a US$100 check to The Mountaineers with “Bonnington Range” written on the bottom by December 25. Limit 3.
