Alpine Scramble - Wilson Park—Van Trump Park Traverse

Solitude, breathtaking flowers, meandering meadows, glacial vistas, and herds of wildlife, all within a mile of the crowdzilla at the Comet Falls trailhead. A great workout at ~10 miles, ~4500’ gain, S4/T5 scramble. For folks fully vaccinated against COVID.

  • Strenuous 4, Technical 5
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 12.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 8,200 ft

Arranged via email.

A variation of the route described in the route place.  This trip begins (and ends) at the Nisqually Bridge parking area.  The first part of the day ascends the southern aspect of the cleaver separating Van Trump Park from Wilson Park to achieve the unnamed summit at ~7500’ (the peak in the upper right corner of this photo):

From there we will either traverse (or descend and re-ascend depending on conditions) to reach the upper portions of Wilson Park (the meadows/fell-fields to the east of the cleaver).  We plan on ascending to ~8200’ before (again, depending on conditions) either cross the cleaver near 8200’ and descend through Van Trump Park, or alternatively descend the eastern edges of Wilson Park.  Photos from past trips to this venue can be seen here.
