Silver King Peak: 6 miles, 2800' gain. Maps will be provided.
This trip is structured for Scramble students who have recently completed the Snow FT. Emphasis will be on reinforcement of navigation, route-finding and snow travel skills.
We'll hike up through Silver Basin, ascend the south ridge of Silver King Peak, and continue north along the ridge to The Throne and Silver Queen Peak if time and stamina permit. In good weather the scenery is spectacular - eastward to the Cascade Crest, south to the Crystal Lakes Peaks, Mt Adams and Mt Hood (yep!) and westward to Mt Rainier, less than 13 miles distant.
Be mentally prepared for a 600 vertical foot glissade down a 30-degree plus slope. Yahoo!
Ed Dominquez will co-lead. See my photo site for a preview.
