Red Pass & Mountain (Commonwealth Basin)

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Red Mountain

A Smoot peak that is relatively close to town! Please read the leader note's section before requesting leader permission

  • Strenuous 3, Technical 2
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,900 ft
  • Pace: 1,000 ft/hr

You must be prepared and fit for a strenuous day with a lot of elevation gain and loss. Also, the final mile to summit involves rock scrambles with some exposure. Do not sign up if you are not confident in your conditioning and your capacity for type 2 fun. We won't go crazy fast, but we will go at a moderate but steady pace with a 5-min per hour. Pacing: all day, moderate pace (averaging 1000 ft per hour). Expect 7-9 hours car to car.
