8:30 AM at Upper C Parking Lot - Crystal Mountain Resort
Priority given to Tacoma Scrambling students. Conditioner will be done using snowshoes. Ice axe and helmet required, but will only be used if glissading or if time allows, ice axe arrest practice. This trip can be done with hiking poles as it is a popular backcountry ski route. Group will practice avalanche awareness and snowpack analysis, as well as snow travel techniques. As this is a moderatly angled slope, it is a great opportunity for students with little or no snowshoe experience! MSR snowshoes with corrugated frames are preferred, but you can complete the route with snowshoes that have tube frames. 10E's, ice axe, helmet, snowshoes, and trekking poles required.
