  • Technical 3, Strenuous 4
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 9.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,400 ft
  • Pace: 2 mph

We will meet at the State Route 512 and Interstate 5 park and ride located in Lakewood  by 6am.    From there we will consolidate vehicles and head for our take off location on Goat Creek road.

For this Scramble of Mt. Wow we will be going in from Forest Road 59 and Goat Creek road.  This will hopefully help us avoid the holiday weekend crowds that will be going into the park.  This road is not well maintained and it would be best to have a high clearance vehicle to get to our launch point.  This route will be a brush bash this time of year so dress accordingly.  This route is the shortest and has the least elevation gain of the ways to scramble Mt. Wow.   The listed mileage and elevation gain for this scramble are for the Lake Allen route which would be our backup approach if needed.

Update:  I checked out the Goat Creek road, it is in extremely poor condition.  The brush and trees are encroaching the road and there is a very steep gully you must drive through to reach the end of the road.  My truck hit its front skid plate going through this gully on the way in and out not to mention all the other times rocks hit the bottom of the truck.  Once on this road there is no way to turn around.  Due to this we will be going with the back up plan of of the Lake Allen route.
