Brickyard Park and Ride in Kirkland at 6:00 AM
It had rained overnight and more was coming in, so we kept driving right past Baring to the Rock Mt trailhead. We hiked the trail to Crescent Lake, ascended Howard and then returned more/less the same way back to the lake. We did not go to Mastiff at all.
It started raining during the ascent and continued for most of the afternoon. Our original plan was to scramble Rock mountain via a north route from Crescent Lake, but due to the rain we just hiked back to the cars the same way.
Due to the ups and downs on the trail, the total elevation was 6000'. Overall, I think this is a pretty good alternative to a west side destination when the weather is poor. The trail can be a bit brushy (blue berries), but for the most part the terrain is quite open.
