8:00 AM at Preston Park and Ride
After consolidating riders at the Preston park and ride (I-90 Exit 22), we drive another 2 hours to Tucquala Meadows campground and Cathedral Rock Trail (1345) at 3400 ft. Hike 5.5 miles to Peggy's Pond (5540 ft) and make camp. Evening activities include exploratory hike and sunset viewing, possible swim, huckleberry gathering, and general socializing. Rise early the next morning and continue up the east ridge until a clear route is found into the bowl and across it to the shallow saddle below Daniel's East Peak. Traverse the talus slope and continue up a series of ramps to the summit (2.5 miles/7960ft). Descend the route to Peggy's Pond and hike out. Into one of Washington's most gorgeous areas we spend two days. Late August means clear weather, few mosquitoes (I hope), and a plethora of Huckleberries. (The Skinny: 16 miles, 5200 feet gain, S5 T4)
