Alpine Scramble - Marcus Peak & Grand Park

Trip

Alpine Scramble - Marcus Peak & Grand Park

Beautiful (and long) traverse of Marcus Peak and Grand Park of ~5000' elevation gain and ~16 miles along the ridge NW of Marcus Peak. Great way to see Elk habitat east of Grand Park, we will NOT be visiting Palisades Peak.

  • Technical 3, Strenuous 5
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 17.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 5,000 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,962 ft

Various P&Rs to accommodate attendees, then 6am at the restrooms near the White River Ranger Station.

A beautiful and very strenuous traverse of ~5000' gain and ~16 miles that visits Marcus Peak, runs the ridge NW of Marcus (will skip The Palisades), crosses Huckleberry Creek, and regains the trail in Grand Park for the hike back to Sunrise by way of Frozen Lake.  We position a car in the Sunrise parking lot to make our trip a bit easier.  Photos from past trips can be seen here.
