Alpine Scramble - Little Annapurna

Let's gamble on an overnight permit to the Enchantments!

  • Strenuous 5, Technical 1
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 16.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 6,100 ft

A small group will leave Olympia at 3am to be at the Leavenworth Ranger Station by 7:30 and get in the walk-up permit lottery. The rest will meet at 9:30 at a location TBD in or near Lworth.

Please read carefully before requesting permission:

First dibs on this trip go to the folks on my canceled South Sister scramble, as this is Plan B (C, D and E).

IF we get overnight permits for the Core Enchantments, we'll leave a car at Snow Lake and do the thru-hike over 2 days.

IF we get overnight permits for Colchuck Lake, we'll go in, make camp and do the Core on Sunday, out and back over Asgaard Pass, possible Little Annapurna.

IF we don't get overnight permits, we'll find a campsite along Icicle Creek (or Lake Wenatchee Plan B) and do a day hike, possibly Rock Mountain, Nason Ridge or something else in the area, then do Asgaard Pass and upper Enchantments Sunday.

I understand people may not be comfortable with ambiguity. Don't ask permission if you're not ready to roll with it. Nothing but Asgaard Pass and Upper Enchantments is for certain.

What we'll need:

Warmest gear. Highs are partly sunny, but in the low 30s and colder at night. So, it’s time to bust out the warm gloves, hats, fleeces, socks. Hiking boots OK with gaiters and extra wool socks.  Definitely helmet and microspikes.

If someone has a stove that burns white gas, that would be helpful (Dragontail, XKG), or an MSR Reactor. We can have Jetboils, but it would help if we could beg, borrow or steal the other kind too.

Water filters (there is water everywhere on this route)

More food than you thought you needed (cold burns calories)

Map and GPS track of both Little Annapurna and the thru-hike.

Individual phone chargers

Money for permit, or campsite. $15 each for permit – you would pay me cash on arrival. I'd be fronting money for your permit, so if you flake or last-minute cancel and do not pay for your permit, my report, which is visible to other leaders, will reflect that.  Thanks for understanding.

Please let me know if you want to go by Thurs at noon and we’ll arrange carpools and departure times.
