  • Strenuous 4, Technical 4
  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,900 ft
8:00 AM at Rachel Lake TH

7 miles, 3900' gain, USGS Chikamin Peak, WA or use a custom TOPO map I will email before the trip.

The ascent will be via the SE ridge with 95% being off-trail using map, compass and altimeter. If you dislike bushwhacking, this one's not for you.

On the other hand, if you want to test or improve your navigation skills and don't mind some brush, this will be a fun and rewarding day.

The route ascends old growth forest to 5000', then through a cliff band to a beautiful flat meadow at 5400'. From the meadow we'll follow the SE ridge spine to the summit block. Return will be via the conventional route, SW to the Rachel Lake trail.

Helmets are mandatory; ice axes would be helpful on steep hillsides.
