Meeting place and time
We are not meeting at the Alpental/Snow Lake trailhead. We will rather meet at the PCT/Commonwealth Basin trailhead. Go Eastbound I-90 to exit 52 which is the west summit. At the stop sign at the end of the ramp, take a left under the freeway overpass, and drive another 100 feet to the PCT trailhead parking (go past the westbound freeway entrance on your left and a bit further). The actual parking lot on the right may be blocked by snow, but there is usually a wide space plowed out on the left big enough for several cars. Look for my somewhat battered-looking silver/grey PT Cruiser...! Drivers be sure to bring your trailhead pass just in case (though enforcement has *probably* not started yet).
Meet by 7:45 and ready to go by 8:00.
This will be a student-only instructional scramble where we will take time to practice snow travel and ice axe skills. Be sure to bring snow/rain gear and extra gloves as we will be getting down on the snow. Depending on conditions, snowshoes may be advisable, so consider renting or borrowing if you do not have your own. I will email about about conditions, carpool, etc. later in the week.

Required Equipment
- The Ten Essentials
- Helmet
- Mountaineering Boots
- Ice Axe
Emergency descent gear (biner, diaper harness, Klemheist cord)- Strongly consider bringing snowshoes if you have them or can obtain them without extraordinary difficulty (rent/borrow). Don't purchase them specifically for this trip, as the season goes along you will need them less and less!
