Guye Peak/North Route

Alpine Scramble - Guye Peak/North Route

SeattleStudentScramble: This will be a moderately-paced trip to this very scenic scramble in Snoqualmie Pass. Time will be taken to practice snow travel, ice ax, and glissade skills for scramble students (depending on conditions). Please allow current scramble students to have priority registering for this scramble.

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers activity.
  • Technical 3, Strenuous 3
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 7.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,200 ft

We will be leaving from the PCT/Commonwealth Basis Trailhead, NOT the Alpental/Snow Lake Trailhead mentioned in the Route Description. However, we will NOT be meeting at the trailhead, but at the WSDOT facility Travelers' Rest located just off the freeway in Snoqualmie Pass.  Coming from Seattle, travel east on I-90 to Exit 52 (W Summit). Take the exit; at the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto the service road and continue east, paralleling the freeway, for half a mile or so; you will pass a restaurant, gas station, and convenience store on your left and Dru Brew and Commonwealth Restaurant on your right.  Meet at Travelers' Rest where the WSDOT  provides well-maintained indoor toilet facilities in the west end of the building (shared with a coffee shop/gift shop in the east end of the building).  From there we will make our way to the trailhead on the other (Alpental) side of the freeway. A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each car at the TH.

Leader will be driving a steel-blue/grey Toyota Rav4 with license plate beginning BLY.

We will meet at Travelers' Rest at 7:45 am and will plan to be geared up and at the actual  trailhead by 8.

Please bring a paper map.  Check the weather and any avalanche report.  Be prepared to discuss route options at the meeting place.  Again, please be clear that this scramble is primarily being listed for the benefit of students; time will be taken to practice relevant skills.

A followup email with any updates and some specifics will go out Thursday.  Students should use the trip roster to arrange their own car pools.  One good meeting place is the Park'n'Ride associated with Preston/Exit 22 on eastbound I-90, although locations in Issaquah and along I-405 and I-5 may work as well.  Please take early-escaping holiday traffic into account in estimating your travel time.

Please make every effort to avoid last-minute cancellations, which deprive those on the waiting list from a meaningful chance to join the trip.  However, last-minute cancellations are much preferable to No-Shows, which can impact your privilege to sign up for future trips.

Leader's phone/text is 206. 632. 3266 (only for last minute queries, concerns, cancellations: use email for any earlier questions or concerns).  Leader may not have coverage in Snoqualmie Pass.
