7:30 AM at Summerland TH, Mt. Rainier NP
Goat Island Mt. lies just NE of Mt. Rainier, snugged up between the Emmons and Fryingpan glaciers. We'll take the Wonderland Trail to Summerland, then cross the glacial creek, ascend Goat Island Mt. from the SW and ramble its crest, turning frequently for views of The Mountain. We'll complete our traverse with a cross-country descent of the NE ridge, gaining navigation and routefinding experience on the way. Scramble rating 3-3, 10 miles, 3700'. Bring ice axe.
