Reg opens May 30 Tacoma Scrambles students get priority on this trip, that is why I have "leader permission" required.
we will ascend via the Snow Lake TH (off of Stevens Canyon Rd.). from Snow lake basin we cross a boulder field (which I hope is still well covered in snow), then up a fairly steep gully to the saddle and onto the ridge. we travel the ridgeline north to the summit which is likely melted out and is a short rock scramble.
depending upon the number of party members and snow conditions we may choose to descend via the Castle- Foss saddle and traverse over to the vicinity of Pinnacle Trail. This option makes the route a bit longer and requires a short car shuttle.
If we descend via the ascent gully, it is possible that there is hard icy snow in it so be prepared with your crampons.
Required Equipment
The Ten Essentials
ice axe, helmet, crampons.( no hasty harness)
(they may be needed if we choose to descend the ascent gully and it turns out to be icy.)
