The destination for this Scramble is changed from Camp Robber Peak to an EXPLORATORY scramble of Lichtenberg Mtn and Mt McCausland just east of Stevens Pass due to high water at the river crossing for the original trip. This trip will head uphill from the switchback on Smith Brook Road and travel on snow the entire way with some very good views along the NE ridge and from the summit of Lichtenberg.
DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS:
Drive US 2 six miles past Stevens Pass to the Mill Creek U-turn, head back west towards the pass two miles to the entrance of Smith Brook Road. Distance is 85 miles from Seattle 65th Park & Ride. Driving time is approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
GEAR:
- Ice Axe is required.
- Trekking poles are recommended.
ROUTE:
From the road find a good place to cross the creek, then head up the ridge to Lichtenwasser Lake. Gain the NE ridge and follow to summit. Next descend on the north side to the saddle above Lake Valhalla and climb the ridge to the summit of Mt McCausland.
