9:00 AM at DeRoux CG, NF Teanaway River Road (exit left side of road a mile or two before end)
This is a beautiful high traverse in the sunny Teanaway area. Because it is a "high traverse," we don't just stay on the summit for an hour or less for lunch: we'll be ridge-walking/scrambling on a series of small summits for about half of the trip! The technical rating is probably a little low for this trip: we are just getting it re-entered in the database after it has not been led for a number of years. The northeasternmost portion of the ridge is airy and sporty, so those with major exposure issues may wish to pick a different trip. While having done so is not a prerequisite, you will probably feel most comfortable if you have successfully completed prior T4s/T5s. There is a good deal more offtrail travel than the regular Esmerelda scramble to the western summits (although we will bag those, too!), including the ridge running and the off-trail descent, some of which involves negotiating loose scree and brush, as well as a stream crossing. Feel free to call the leader with questions (206) 632-3266 (until early afternoon Friday, July 27: I will be car camping that night near the Beverly CG: stop by and share my campfire if you see my silver-grey PT Cruiser off the side of the road in one of the informal campgrounds between the Beverly Bridge and the Beverly CG!). The weather pattern seems to have settled into a favorable one on the east slope of the Cascades, so come on along for Teanaway high ridge wandering!
