Alpine Scramble - Edwards Mesa-Enchantments Traverse

Alpine Scramble - Edwards Mesa-Enchantments Traverse

Although just as beautiful as The Enchantments, the adjacent Edwards Mesa area is even more difficult to reach (you can say ‘fewer people’ ;). Although a ‘reduced version’ of this route/place, it is no slouch at ~14 miles and 5700’ of elevation gain. Only for folks fully vaccinated against COVID.

  • Mileage: 14.0
  • Elevation Gain: 5,700 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 7,000 ft

Arranged via email.

An immersive day in gorgeous country.  We will ascend on the Snow Lake Trail to ~2900’ then travel cross country (through very steep terrain) to reach Toketie Lake.  From there we will ascend to Toketie Pass (staying on the North side of Toketie Creek to avoid avalanche debris) then assess our reserves and possibly do a side trip to Edwards Mesa.  Our descent will be over the ~7000’ pass connecting the Toketie Creek/Nada Creek basins before descending along Nada Creek to reach the most challenging scrambling at ~5500’ (you can see this section at the narrowing some distance above the scrambler in this photo).  After descending to Nada Lake we will hike the Snow Lake Trail back to our cars.  Photos from past trips to this venue can be seen here.
