7:00 AM Meet at Mowich Lake campground between the parking area and the restrooms, ready to go. Arrive a bit earlier than this so you can put on boots, use restrooms, etc.
This trip is about 12.5 miles, 4600’ gain. Party size will be 6 max. We’re starting somewhat early to beat the heat and minimize parking shenanigans.
Before signing up, please read the route descriptions and Mountie trip reports to help decide if this trip is right for you. To view the trip reports, click on: “See full route/place details” then click on “Trip Reports” tab. The most technical part will be Echo Rock, rated T4 rock. We will also be traveling on snow, potentially using crampons.
Fitness/pace - are you ready? Participants should be comfortable hiking Cable Line trail to the top of West Tiger 3 (2000’ elevation gain) carrying all their scramble gear in less than 1.5 hours OR hiking to the base of the Mt Si Haystack carrying all their scramble gear in less than 2.5 hours (3150’ gain).
Required gear: mountaineering boots, ice axe, helmet, crampons, 10 essentials, protected downclimb setup; poles are optional but recommended.
We will approach via the Spray Park Trail, scramble Echo Rock 7870,' scramble Observation Rock 8364' and return to Mowich Lake Parking via a cross-country route to Knapsack Pass, making a counterclockwise lollipop loop. The pace of this trip is intended to be moderate and conversational. Breaks will be short (10-15 min/hour average) so that we keep moving. If the weather is clear, we will take longer breaks on the summits.
Estimated car to car time based on similar Mountie trips: 10-12 hours
